Embryonic Development:

• Then He made his offspring from Sulaalah of worthless water (Sajdah 32:8)

  ثُمَّ جَعَلَ نَسْلَهُ مِن سُلَالَةٍ مِّن مَّاءٍ مَّهِينٍ

  Then He made his offspring from Sulaalah of worthless water..

  Scientific Miracle 1:

  سُلَالَةٍ

  Sulaalah:

  Surah as-Sajdah 32: 7-9:

  ا ۖ وَبَدَأَ خَلْقَ الْإِنسَانِ مِن طِينٍ

  Ayah 7:..and [Allah] originated creation of Man [Adam] from clay.

  ثُمَّ جَعَلَ نَسْلَهُ مِن سُلَالَةٍ مِّن مَّاءٍ مَّهِينٍ

  thumma ja’ala naslahu min SULAALATINmin maa’in maheen-

  Ayah 8:Then He made his [Adam's] Nasl (Offspring) from Sulaalatin from worthless water.

  Definitions:

  سُلَالَةٍ

  Sulaalah [سلاله] is the singular of he Plurals: Sulaal [سلال] and Sulaalaat. [سلالات]

  1stMeaning:

  Arabic Definition:

  انتزاع الشئ واخراجه من رفق

  Sulaalah – something drawn out/separated – from something else.

  2ndMeaning:

  The word Saleel and Salsabeel – because the drink was Sulla (سلّ) = Purified.

  Evidence:

  الخالص الصافي(al-khaalis al-saafi) the best and the pure.

  In Prophet Muhammad, Peace be upon him’s, Hadith (Saying):

  و في الحديث: “اللهم اسقنا من سليل الجنة”,وهو صافي شرابها,قيل له سليل لأنه سلّ حتى خَلَصْ

  O Allah, give us drink from the Paradise’s SALEELسليل,(lisan al-Arab dictionary explains)and the saleel is a purely extracted drink. And it is called SALEEL because it was SULLA ( سلّpurified) until it became pure and at its best خَلَصْ.

  3rdMeaning:

  Sul / Sal =

  Something which is unique and different from its group.Why?Because it has been Purified (Sulla), so it has become Shaadh ((شاذdifferent, unique)) = Different/Unique, beyond any Measuring/comparison (Qiyas).

  4thMeaning:

  السلسل(al-salsal):the pure and clear.

  السلسل هو الماء العذب الصافي إذا شُرِبَ تسلسل في الحلق

  The SALSAL سلسلis the pure and clear water that is when drank, it flows smoothly in the throat.

  SoSalsal = pure and clear water.

  5th Meaning:

  Sulaalah is translated (or synonymous) to Jawhar = Quintessence[by al Mawrid Dictionary. section 4, page 751], or KhulaaSah (exclusive).

  Quintessence means: : An extract from anything, containing its rarest virtue, or most subtle and essential constituent in a small quantity; pure or concentrated essence. [Dictionary.com].

  Man is created and determined from a single flowing Sulaalah, with the above meanings.

  Combining the Definitions and Summarising them, we see that;

  1 – Sulaalah is a Pure (sul / sal) flowing liquid, drawn out/separated from a greater collection of flowing liquid.

  2 -Sulaalah/sulaalatin is in the Singular form [sulaal / sulaalaat are plural].

  3 – Salsal = it is Unique (Shaadh).

  = The Sperm:

  If we study this, what does it resemble? It resembles the liquid semen which the male ejaculates, which contains the Sperm.

  The liquid then gradually disperses [separating the sperm cells] and there are millions of different sperm cells travelling towards the female Egg – each sperm cell is only a Singular cell, this Singular sperm cell is genetically Unique with different characteristics in its genes.

  Doesn’t this perfectly describe the Sperm cell?

  Purified?

  Someone may wonder; how does the word ‘Purified’ fit into all of this?

  We know that according to the Sunnah – Prophetic teachings, the ‘maniy’ (liquid semen which the male ejects at orgasm) is not Najis (impure), rather it is Pure [Tahir] [According to: Ahadith that Aa’isha (may Allah be pleased with her) would simply scratch off the dry ‘maniy’ from the clothes of Allah’s Messenger (sal Allah alayhi wasalam), and he would wear those clothes in prayer. [Sahih Muslim] This action of his proved that ‘maniy’ is Pure.

  All the above is implied just through one word alone; Sulaalah.

  ثُمَّ جَعَلَ نَسْلَهُ مِن سُلَالَةٍ مِّن مَّاءٍ مَّهِينٍ

  Then He made his offspring from Sperm [sulaalah] of worthless water. – Sajdah 32:8

  The praise is for Allah who explains so much through so little..

• Verily, We have created man from Nutfah Amshaj.. (Insaan 76:2)

  Nutfah:

  إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍأَمْشَاجٍ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا

  Surely We have created Man from NutfatinAmshaaj

  - Surah Dahr/Insaan 76:2

   

  Meaning 1:

  Nutfah [ نطفه]-a Singular entity, which is a Part of a bigger group of its kind.

  al-Nutaf [نطف] (Plural) – Nutaf are the karats (of gold), and a single karat of gold = a Nutfah.

  The Nutfah is a single Sperm from a collection of millions of sperms. (one teaspoon of semen has millions of sperms in it.)

  The Nutfah can also refer to One female Egg (from a group of many other Eggs in the Ovaries).

  The disbelievers over 1000 years ago had alot of different theories on this issue;

  i.e. Some philosophies proposed that ALOT [if not all] of the male semen is used to coat the female blood she has in her menses – to form the child):

  The idea of the blood being menstrual blood is interesting as it closely resembles Aristotelian doctrine. The clotting of milk into cheese analogy used by Aristotle for the formation of the embryo occurs also in Indian embryology. The Susruta-samhita compares the creamy layers (santanika) formed in milk, to semen and blood, which through chemical changes caused by heat, produce seven different layers of skin (kala). This concept occurs again in a Sutra on embryology written in Sanskrit, “Development, 0 Ananda,” Buddha is made to say, “is comparable to a vessel of milk, like as this ferments and forms a kind of kefir or cheese.”

  2nd meaning:

  Nutfah – Dribble/Leak/Drip.

  نطفة

  (nutfah):ماء الرجل والجمع نطف the man’s water or semen and the plural of it is nutaf.

  النطفه التي يكون منها الولد

  the nutfah is what the fetus forms from it.

  ونطف الماء ينطف اذا قطر قليلا قليلا

  the water natufa yantufu, which means the water was leaking few drops of water.

  القربة تنطف اي تقطر

  thewaterskin was tantufu, which means leaking drops of water.

  و جاء سيفه ينطِف دماً

  his sword was yantifu blood, meaning drops of blood were falling from it.

  النطافه

  (al-nattaafah):

  القطاره

  (al-qattarah) eye drop dispenser, dropping tube.

  Or when a bucket of water is emptied, and the last drops dribble out.

  So nutfah also has an implication of dripping water (i.e. dribbling.)

  I.e. In this ayah’s context, the semen Dribbles.out.

  Two meanings of Nutfah combined:

  Nutfah = a Single sperm from millions of other sperms which were Dribbled/dripped out by the male in his semen (i.e. in Ejaculation.)

  And a single Egg cell from thousands of others in the Ovaries. (but this does not dribble out, so that definition does not need to be added.)

  “Science has confirmed in recent times that only one of the 300 million sperms is required for fertilisation of the ovum; this means that only a 1/300 millionth part or 0.000000003 quantity of sperms that are emitted is required for fertilisation.”

  - to Mingle. I.e. Male and women nutfah’s mingle. -

  The Male sperm, and the Female Egg merge together = Fertilization of the Egg cell.

  mashaja - (synonymous in meaning to khalaTa – خلط= mingled)

  NOTE: “”Nutfatin Amshajin” could also mean Mingled liquids which besides Sperm fluid contain other fluids like Prostatic secretions, etc. which facilitate the movement of the sperm to help in fertilization.”

  إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍأَمْشَاجٍ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا

  Surely We have created Man from a Sperm of dribbled (semen) and an Egg Mingled...

• Had he not been a sperm from Maniyin yuMNaa? (Qiyamah 35:37)

  أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ

  Had he not been a sperm from Maniyin yuMNaa?

  [Qiyamah 35:37]

  

  Maniy منِيand Yamnaaيمْنَىٰare derived from ‘MaN’ من.

  1st General Meaning:

   

  Maniy means ‘Semen.’

  yaMNaa means ‘to Eject‘.

  [استمنى] istaMNaa = he Ejaculated the semen.

  2nd Meaning:

   

  Maniy – (darbu al shay’a) = Striking/hitting/Penetrating/Poking something.

  i.e. yuMtaNa – synonymous in useage to – yuDRaB – Stricken/Penetrated.Stricken with Penetration.

  يمتنى(yumtana)[Synonymous to]: يُضْرَبْ(yudrab)is stricken; is penetrated; is stricken with penetration.

  و قوله:لم تُقْرَفْ لم تُدانْ لما يُمْتَنى له أي ينظر إذا ضُرِبَتْ ألاقح أم لا أي لم

  تحمل الحمل الذي يمتنى له

  And in his poem, don’t be disgusted from what is yumtanaيُمْتَنىto it, meaning (أي) when you look at it when it is stricken and penetrated (by his hand inserted into the animal’s vagina) ضُرِبَتْto determine if it were fertilized or not (ألاقح أم لا).

  As is well known, DaRaBa = to Strike / hit.

  So yuMtaNa has a synonymous meaning of ‘to Strike and Penetrate’.

  3rd Meaning:

   

  MaNa [ منى] = (he) Cut it.

  = (QaTa’ah [قطعه]) (due to the meaning of ‘striking and penetration’ and in effect – Cutting.)

  منىالشيءأيقطعه-[He]Mana the thing which means[He]Cut it.

  4th meaning:

   

  MuNiYa = to be Stricken / Afflicted with a hardship. (uSeeba i.e. muSeebah أُصيب).

  مُنِيَ(muniya):أُصيب(o’seeba) to be afflicted with, hit by, stricken by, attacked by, smitten by.

  مُنِيَ(muniya): to be afflicted with, hit by, stricken by, attacked by, smitten by, affected by, to suffer, sustain, undergo, experience.

  منى(mana): hit, stricken, smitten, emit, to be afflicted, semen, sperm.

  Definitions of ‘Maniy‘ and yuMNa‘ were according to:

  Now if we see surah; Najm 53.46

  مِننُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ

  Was he not a drop of sperm, Emitted forth (Ejected) and Penetrating?

   

  We see the following Implications can be found from the words MaNy/yuMNa:

  1 – Semen

  2 – Emitted / Ejected.

  3 – Striking / Hitting. (Darb)

  4 – Cutting (QaTa’ah)

  5 – Inflicting (i.e. a calamity Inflicts/strikes someone.)

  If we use the definitions from above, we see the following;

  The male Nutfah (sperm) is;

  1 - Emitted/Ejected

  2 – Strikes

  3 – and Cuts.

  أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ

  Had he not been a sperm from Maniyin yuMNaa[Ejected Semen- which Strikes, and Cuts."]

  [Qiyamah 75:37]

  Relation to Modern Science:

  We know now through Modern Science that the male Sperm is Emitted from the male Semen, it swims towards the woman’s egg in the Fallopian tube, and Strikes and Penetrates into the egg. This is when both the male and female genes combine in the stage of Fertilization, and form a Zygote, and divide into further cells, gradually forming into a male or female baby.

  All this has been described through just one word from the same root; “MaNiY” and “yuMNaa”.

   

  Even More Amazing! :

   

  Male’s Sperm Determines Gender of Child! :

  Allah tells us that it is the Sperm that effects whether the child born will be a Male or Female;

  فَجَعَلَمِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنثَىٰ

  And made Min Hu [from him (the sperm)] two mates, the male and the female. [Qiyamah 75:39]

  Through this verse – because of the words ‘minHU‘ [from HIM i.e. the sperm]) – Allah is telling us that it is the Male’s Sperm which determines whether the person to be born will be Male or Female.

  This is not an exaggeration because only two verses before this [in ayah 37], the sperm is being spoken about. So the discussion from that ayah on towards this ayah is continuous and still referring to the Sperm.

  This is amazing, considering many cultures –over 1000years ago and some even today- blamed the woman if a female child was born, thinking it was the woman’s fault. Whereas it was the male’s sperm which caused the baby to be a female, by the permission of Allah.

• Read in the Name of your Master, who created. Created man from an 'Alaq. (Alaq 96:1-2)

  اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ.خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ

  Read in the name of your Master who created.

  Created man from‘Alaq.

  (surah ‘Alaq 96: 1-2)

  ‘Alaq – Clinged on something or Stuck to it.

  1st meaning:

   

  ‘Aliqat – to become Attached.

  وفي الحديث: ف علق ت الاعراب به اي نشبوا وتعلقوا

  i.e. The Arabic saying: They became attached to it and adopted it to their culture.

  Meaning 2:

  علق الصيد في حبالته اي نشب

  ‘Aaliqa – the animal Fell into the trap. I.e. He became attached in it.

  Meaning 3:

  والعلوق ما يعلق بالانسان

  ‘Ulooq – that which Clings onto a person. I.e. Lice, or a Leech etc.

  وال علق في الثوب ما علق به

  ‘Aaliqa – what clinged on the dress.

  Meaning 4:

  ‘Alaqah – Leech.

  i.e. doodat* al ‘Alaq

  دودة العلق

  = the Leech worm.

   

  Summarised:

  ‘ALaQ;

  - to Hang
  – to be Suspended
  – Dangle
  – to Stick on.
  – Cling On.
  – be Attached.
  – LEECH (animal)

  ‘Alaaqa = a Bond, Connection, Association.

  Conclusion:

  Allah created the human from an ‘Alaq. This ‘Alaq has the following attributes;

  1 – Clinging and Connected inside the mother’s womb.
  2 – Sucking blood from the mother’s womb – like a Leech.
  3 – a Blood clot.

  اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ.خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ

  Read in the name of your Master who created. Created man from a Clinging Clot – that Sucks blood (from the mother like a Leech).

  (surah ‘Alaq 96: 1-2)

  That is the origin of you, and all humans that you see – an ‘Alaq.

• 1 - The World is Round like an Ostrich Egg (Daha)

  وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا

  And the Earth after that He DAHAit.

  -Naziat 79:30

   

  Daha

  دَحَا

  1st General Meaning:

  Daha-

  دفعه و رمى به

  - (dafa’aahu wa ramaa bih) = Caused it to Move, pushed it, Rolled, or Threw it.

  i.e.

  دُحُورًاۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ-

  [the Jinn who spy in the heavens are]Repulsed [Dahoowra], and for them is a constant/painful punishment. [Saffat 37:9]

  دحا الصبي المِدحاةَََ أي دفع الصبي المِدحاةَََ

  - Daha [rolled] the boy the rolling toy- means the boy pushed the rolling toy.

  دحرجَ (dahraja): to roll, roll along, to roll down.

  In Surah Inshiqaq – ayah 84:6 – the word kaDHan كَدح (‘advancing towards’ your Master) comes from the word Dahaa = to Move towards something.

  Qirasah (Round) – Synonymous to Dahaa:

  In the hadith of Abi Rafiaa’:

  و في حديث أبي رافع:كنت أُلاعب الحسن و الحسين,رضوان الله عليهما,بالمداحي,هي احجار أمثال القِرصة

  “I used to play with Al-Hasan and Al-Hussein, may Allah Almighty be pleased with them, with AL-MADAAHI, which means STONES that look like AL-QIRASAH.”

  So what does Al-Qirasah mean?

  According to Lisan Al-Arab dictionary [1], Book 4, Page 516:

  القِرصة(al-qirasah): قرِّصي العجين أي سوِّيهقِرصة- Cut the dough into small round pieces.

  القِرصة(al-qirasah): قرص الشمس اي عينها – The qurs of the sun means the eye of the sun, which is round.

  2nd Meaning:

  Dahaa = Round and Spherical:

  The following statements are phrases which have been used in our Islamic history from many centuries ago:

  إندحَّ بطنه إندحاحاّ اي إتّسع

  His tummy became round and bigger.

   

  In Prophet Muhammad’s Hadith:

  كان لأسامة بطننٌ مُندحٌ اي متسع

  Osama had a round and big tummy.

   

  و بطنٌ مُنداحُ أي خارخٌ مُدوّر

  His tummy is mun-daahun means it is OUT THERE AND ROUND مُدوّر.

   

   

  و رجلٌّ دحدحُ اي قصير غليظ البطن

  A man is dahda-hun which means he is short, stocky and has a big and fat tummy.

   

  الدحداح هو المستدير الململم

  The dahdaah is the person who is ROUND and STOCKY.

   

  الدِردِحة من النساء التي طولها و عرضها سواء

  Al-dir-dihati from the women is the one whose height and width look the same! SHE LOOKS ROUND, and the by the way, the distance between the earth’s north and south poles is approximately only 45 miles shorter than the earth’s width.

  Ustadh (Teacher) Nouman Ali Khan says about this ayah in his Tafseer(35 minutes [Nazi'at part B]);

  The word;

  Daha – Dahwa – the egg of an Ostrich.

  Ud-hiyyah – the place where the ostrich lays its egg.

  So some have said that because there is an implication of Daha being something similar (like an ostrich’s egg) and Allah has used this word – it is possible that it has this implication in it. And Allah knows best.

  Now, the very first expression in the series, dahâhâ, is noticeably distinctive and different in genre from the rest. Watt, following many other previous translators, renders it as “spread out”.   3rd meaning:

  Dahaa:

  - Expanse
  – Evened
  – Balanced
  – Equalled.
  – Levelled.

  دحا (daha):

  دحّفي الثّرى بيتاً إذا وسعه

  - He expanded the house.

  دحى (daha): الدُّحُحْ(al-duhuh), which is plural of دحى – daha, which means: الارضون الممتدّة expanded earths.

  دحا (daha):

  مدحوحاّأي مُسوّى

  - maDhoohaa which is similar in meaning to; muSawwa = evened, balanced, equaled, leveled.

  4th meaning:

  Dihya = Best, extremely powerful, and exalted.

  دحا (daha):

  الدّواح أي العظيم الشديد العلو

  al-dawwah is something that is great, extremely powerful, and exalted.

  دحا (daha):

  الدِّحْية هو رئيس الجُند,و به سمِّي دِحية الكلبي

   

  Al-dihyais the leader of the soldiers, and from this was namedDihya Al-Kalbay, [who was one of Prophet Muhammad's close Companions.]

   

  الدِّحْية هو رئيس القوم و سيدهم

  -Al-dihyaisthe chief of the tribe or the group and the BEST AMONG THEM و سيدهم.

  Planet earth is indeed the best planet in our Solar System. It is the only planet that has water, life and Paradise-like Scenic Views. The others are dead planets with no life like that of earth’s exists on them

  Conclusion:

  So based on all of these meanings, what do we find?

  We find that:

  1- The earth is a moving object that waspushed or thrown by Allah Almighty into space.

  2- The earth is a qurs and indahhat and is dihdaaha, which means it is a round and a spherical object.

  3- The earth is mad-hooha ( مدحوحا), which is balanced and evened.

  4- The earth is dihya, which means it isthe best among its group. This is true since all of the planets in our solar system are pretty much similar to our moon. They are lifeless and have no life and no water in them. Earth, on the other hand, has (1)ample water, which is why it is called the BLUE PLANET, (2)ample life, and even (3) Paradise-like views and nature in places such as Hawaii, Alaska, the Carribeans, places in Europe, Asia, Africa etc…

  5- The earth is also dahdah and dahdaah, which means it is round and compressed.

  All these meanings are covered in one word; Daha.

   

  وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا

  And the Earth after that He made round/balanced/made best/exaltedit.

• 2 - The Moon Reflects (Noora) Light from the Sun - Ibn Kathir said it over 700years ago!

  The Moon which Reflects Light

  هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَالشَّمْسَ ضِيَاءً وَالْقَمَرَنُورًا
  

  It is He [Allah] who made the sun a shining light and the moon aNoora – derived light (from the Sun)…

  [Yusuf 10:5]

  We find in Tafsir (interpretation of) Ibn Kathir, a prominent and leading Muslim scholar in the 13th century [800 years ago!], the following commentary about the Moon receiving light from the Sun:

   

  “The sun rises each day and sets at the end of the day, giving one kind of light all the time,but it moves, rising and setting at different points in the summer and winter, thus making the days and nights longer or shorter alternatively according to the season. Its authority is in the daytime, for it is the heavenly body that dominates the day. As for the moon, Allah has decreed that it should pass through different phases.

  At the beginning of the month, the moon appears small when it rises. It gives off little light, then on the second night its light increases and it rises to a higher position, and the higher it rises the more light it gives — even though it is reflected from the sun — until it becomes full on the fourteenth night of the month.”

  “He created the night with its darkness and the day with its light, and they alternate without ceasing. And He created the sun with its shining light, and the moon with its reflected light. and He allotted their stages and gave them separate orbits in the heavens.”

  Definitions’ of the word: Noor:

  1 -نور (noor): بيّن(bayyan) reveal, reflect.

  2 -إستنار به (istanaara bihi):إستمدّ شعاعة (istamadda shu’aaa’uh) was supplied by its light.

  3 -انار المكان (anaara al-makaan): وضعفيهالنور(wada’aa feehi al-noor) Put light into it, or reflected light off of it.

  4 -نوّرتِ الشجرو انارت ايضاً(nawwarat al-shajarah wa anaarat aydan): اخرجت نورها(akhrajat nooraha)The plant reflected the light off of itself, or it showed the light off of itself. However, plants, as we know, are not a source of light.

  5 -انار النبت (anaara al-nabtu): ظهر و حسن(tha-hara wa hasan) the plant was revealed well from light.

  6 – نور(noor): be revealed, to be lighted, to receive light.

  So clearly, when Allah Almighty Said that the Sun is ضياء(diyaa’a), a source of light, and the moon a نورا(Noora), then clearly the moon:

  1-Is reflecting to light, because it isإستمدّ شعاعة (was supplied by light), as this is the meaning of إستنار, which is derived from the root word نورnoor.

  2-Is reflecting to light, because it is ظهر و حسن (was revealed well from light) , as this is the meaning of انار, as in انار النبت.

  3-Is reflecting to light, becauseit receives light from the sun and it is lighted and revealed by it.

   

  هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَالشَّمْسَ ضِيَاءً وَالْقَمَرَنُورًا
  

  It is He [Allah] who made the sun a shining light and the moon aNoora – derived light (from the Sun)…

  [Yunus 10:5]

  Definition of “Diyaa’a” [ ضياء] according to Classical Dictionaries:

  The Source of Light.

   

  1 -ضياء(diyaa’a): الضوء,ما اضاء لك (al-dawa’, ma adaa’a laka) the light, and what it originated from light to you.

   

  2 – The following poem proves that ضياء(diyaa’a) refers to the original light:

  اضاءَتْ لنا النارُ وجهاً اغرَّ,مُلتبِساً,بالفُؤادِ,إلتِباسا
  

  The fire has originated (اضاءَتْis derived from ضياء)for us the light of a mighty glow, that will always be liked by the heart (or something like that).

  Notice here that the fire is the originator and the source of the light. And notice how NOOR or a derivative of it wasn’t used.

  
  

  3 -إستضاء(istadaa’):إستمدّ نورهُ (istamadda noorahu) the original light stretched its NOOR [light] forth.

  4 – تضوَّأ(tadawwa’a): قام فى ظلمةٍ ليرىبِضَوْءِ النار اهلها he got up during the darkness of the night to see from the light of the fire, the people in the place.

  • (Notice again how the fire in this sentence is the originator and the source of the light. And notice how NOOR or a derivative of it wasn’t used.)

   

  5 -ضوء(dawa’): to gleam, radiate, to illumine, illuminate, to shed light, cast light.

  If we see surah Noor 24:35, this word is also used:

  الله نور السماوات والارض مثل نوره كمشكاة فيها مصباح

  المصباح في زجاجة الزجاجة كانها كوكب دري يوقد من شجرة

  مباركة زيتونة لاشرقية ولاغربية يكاد زيتها يضيئ ولو لم تمسسه

  نار نور على نوريهدي الله لنوره من يشاء ويضرب الله الامثال

  للناس والله بكل شئ عليم

  Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth. An example of its brilliance: there is a lamp in a luminous niche. The lamp is in a glass which itself gleams like a radiant star. It is lit by the oil of the blessed tree _ neither from the West nor the East. The oil of the lamp is ready to glow by itself[yaDeey'u] even without being kindled.The bright luminous light is atop another brilliant light. Allah guides towards this light whomever He wants and Allah quotes this parable for the people. Allah is knowledgeable of all things!

  Meaning: The oil is about to يضيئ(yudee’o) [GLOW]without being kindled by fire. Notice how the OIL, in the Parable, is the SOURCE OF LIGHT, and the Arabic word yudee’o يضيئis derived from the root words ضياء (diyaa’a) and ضوء (dawa’).

• 3 - Big Bang & Expansion of the Universe

  أَوَلَمْ يَرَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّ السَّمَاوَاتِوَالْأَرْضَكَانَتَارَتْقًا فَفَتَقْنَاهُمَا- وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ

  كُلَّ

  شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

  Have not the disbelievers seen that the Heavens and the Earth [i.e. the Universe], KaanaTaa [were both] Rathqan(Fused), Fa [then], FataqNaa [We Fataq (Parted)] HuMaa [Them Both].

  And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?

  [surah al The Big Bang

  The Big Bang theory attempts to explain how the universe began. This theory was put forward by Edwin Hubble in 1929. He discovered that the galaxies close to the Milky Way (our Galaxy) are moving and distancing away from us. He also noticed that the further the galaxies were, the faster they were distancing. From this he argued that the universe had a starting point from which it was expanding and has been expanding from since.

   

  The heavens [samaawaat] and the earth ['ArD] (an arabic expression referring to the Universe)

  Rathqan [ رَتْقًا] = something which is fused and inseparable. This word was used in classical arabic when a mother is carrying a child during pregnancy (because they are inseparable), and when she is delivering the child

  - Fataqa [ فَتَقْ] was used = they are Parting up i.e. Her body is parting open and also she is parting from her child (in separation from pregnancy).

  The heavens and earth used to be fused and inseparable, but then Allah caused them to part and separate. In original form – the universe was united as one entity/matter, and they separated /spread out to become separate (individual type) distinguished entities.

   

  Relation to the Big Bang Theory:

  The description above is very close to the Big bang theory. Wherein the Universe and Earth were all One Singularity (i.e. speck) of Compressed Energy, and it continued to Expand to form into the Universe. The matter within it formed into different objects (stars, planets etc.) and forms, including the planet Earth located within it.

  This Expansion of the Universe is supported in the Qur’an when Allah tells us;

  وَالسَّمَاءَبَنَيْنَاهَا بِأَيْدٍ وَإِنَّالَمُوسِعُونَ

  
  
  And the Universe, Weconstructed it with Power, and Surely We, Surely are it’sExpander.

  [surahWasi’ = to Expand/Vasten.

  muWsi’uwn- from the word Wasi’ = to Expand/Vasten. = Expander.

  = Surely, We[Royal We - referring to God] are its muWsi’uwn = Expander.
  

  This is further supported in a translation by Dr. Ghali on Quran.com;

  …surely We are indeed extending (it) wide. [al Dhariyat Continuous Expanding?

  If someone was to object and question if the Universe is continuously expanding or not, then they should know; muWsi’un is in a similar pattern to when Allah says;

   

   

   

   

   

  ( إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَفِظُونَ)

  Surely We have sent the Reminder [Quran] and surely We are it’s Preserver. [Hafidhoon](Al Hijr 15:9)

   

  This is an implication of Continuous Preservation. The same way Allah is Continuously guarding the Quran [Hafidhuwn] until the Final Hour of this world, it is possible that He is continuously expanding the Universe [muWsi'uwn].

  Since both follow a similar pattern in the Arabic language.

• 4 - We Sent down (aNzala) Iron... (Hadeed 57:25) (20th Century Geologic Discovery: Iron came down as Meteors to Earth.)

  and We Sent down (aNzala)Iron…

   

   

  وَأَنزَلْنَاالْحَدِيدَ فِيهِ بَأْسٌ شَدِيدٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ
  
  wa aNzalnaa al hadeed… 
  
  and We Sent down Iron,wherein is great military might and benefits for the people…[surah25]

  
  Question: Why did Allah use the word aNzal = Sent down, and not Khalaqa – Created [Iron]?

  The Science:
  

  Geologists of the 20th century agree that iron landed on Earth in the form of meteors;

  “Massive chunks of rock known as asteroids have broken apart throughout the history of our solar system, sometimes through collisions with other asteroids, showering down smaller chunks of rock. The meteorite fragments that came into Earth’s atmosphere, and did not burn up in the intense heat, brought more iron to the planet’s surface.”

  Conclusion:

  aNzala (meaning ‘sending down’ of Iron) was said by Allah in the Qur’an, over 1,400 years ago. A Scientific Phenomena only discovered in the 20th Century.

   

Definition of Sulb

Many anti-Islamic people say the Qur’an contains scientific errors. Claiming that one of these errors is in surah Tariq, 86:7. They say that sperm is not created in the backbone area.

Through this mini article, we will refute their misunderstanding of the verse through giving a true translation of what the word ‘Sulb’ means.

فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

Then let man see from that which he was created [86:5]

خُلِقَ مِن مَّاءٍ دَافِقٍ

Created from water gushing [semen]

 

يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ

 

Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:(Tariq 86:7) – [a Commonly quoted translation.]

Answer:
1 - As for the proper definition of sulb in the context of this verse [of Shaykh `Abd al-Wahhâb al-Turayrî of IslamToday.com writes:

The word “sulb” should not necessarily be translated as “backbone”. This word has many possible meanings and backbone is only one of them. It is also quite commonly used to mean the loinsof a man. This is how it is used elsewhere in the Qur’ân. Allah says:

“Prohibited to you (for marriage) are…wives of your sons proceeding from your loins (aslâb [ أَصْلَابِ], the plural of sulb [صلب] ).” [Sûrah al-
2 - Dictionaries define Sulb as Loins :

On p.146 of An English and Arabic Dictionary by Joseph Catafago, notice that the only definition given for the word ‘salbi’ is ‘proceeding from the loins’.
